The Monterey Bay Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is an absolute must when the opportunity presents itself. The building is quite large which is a good thing as the ebb and flow of visitors created a tide that was, at times, a struggle to navigate. That being said, side exhibits offered some degree of shelter. One such exhibit was the current art installation. Artists used plastics harvested from the Pacific Gyre to create pieces that serve as reminders of man’s impact on the world’s oceans. Though the pieces were clever and beautiful, what they represent is a sad reality.

The creatures found in every exhibit were inspiring tributes to adaptation and the wonder of nature. From sea horses to jelly fish to creatures that find their home on the ocean floor to those who command a presence where ever they are, the MBA creates possibilities for all of us to see and experience a world that is, for the most part, foreign to us.
