Today Dan and I travelled to Millbrae CA to catch the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) into San Francisco to meet up with a former student, Ellen, who graciously showed us the sights of the city, and some great sights of the City.
We met at Ferry Plaza after a directional challenge and grabbed some tasty lunch, and looked around. It was a gorgeous summer day in San Francisco. We were lucky to enjoy sunny skies with just enough fog drifting into the bay for ambience.
Ellen took us across the Golden Gate Bridge into my new fantasy retirement community Sausalito, then up to the Marin Headlands for gorgeous views of San Francisco, the Bridge, and the Harbor. Left to our own devices we would never have made it there on our own. It was great to see her and I hope I’ll see more of her when she heads East to DC later this summer.
We are relaxing poolside in a hotel tonight after deciding to skip the second night at our campsite. Upon checkin in to the hotel, the clerk excitedly informed us he’d been to Maine’s Moosehead Lake for a wedding and had gone for a cruise on the lake steamship Katahdin. Years ago, I was the director of the Moosehead Marine Museum, the organization that owns and operates the Katahdin. Maine connections abound!
Tomorrow we’re off to Point Reyes National Seashore.
